Transform your virtualization strategy from a cost center to a growth engine.

Recent developments in the virtualization space have prompted enterprises to re-evaluate their virtualization strategy with an eye to examining options for accelerating modernization timetables.

But modernizing a VMware environment is neither a small nor an easy task. The variety of modernization paths can be overwhelming - migrating to the cloud, replatforming, refactoring, replacing your hypervisor, staying on-premises, embracing full modernization and so on. Each option comes with its own set of trade-offs, and finding the right balance of cost, effort, and value requires deep knowledge and a thorough analysis.

At Amdocs, we specialize in guiding enterprises through migration and modernization journeys including VMware modernization. We’ve partnered many times with large-scale, highly regulated enterprises to design and execute transformation programs tailored to their unique needs, ensuring measurable outcomes.

Benefits

  • Cost efficiency

Transitioning to a modernized or cloud-based VMware environment reduces on-premises infrastructure costs, optimizes resource utilization, and offers flexible pricing models like pay-as-you-go.

  • Enhanced scalability

Modernizing VMware environments allows organizations to scale resources seamlessly, adapting to fluctuating workloads and business demands without over-provisioning hardware.

  • Support for modern applications

Enables containerization and Kubernetes adoption for modern application deployment, allowing organizations to innovate with microservices and cloud-native development.

  • Future-Proofing IT

By modernizing VMware environments, businesses align with evolving technology trends, ensuring compatibility with next-gen tools, platforms, and methodologies.

Choosing the best path forward

Considering the different and complex, deployment scenarios possible, many IT leaders are wondering how to evaluate what is the best path forward. According to Gartner®, “In the horizontal direction is the workload location (on- remises, off-premises). In the vertical direction is the provider (VMware, non-VMware). Even with this simple matrix, the vast array of potential alternatives is evident. These are among the more likely options, but many others may be applicable.

Success Stories

Opting for VMware in the cloud, reducing costs and enhancing efficiency
A banking giant in APAC wanted to reduce its’ on-premise footprint. Its The on-premise environment centered around a private cloud that relied on VMware for virtual machines. The private cloud couldn’t scale or adapt to meet changing business requirements. The bank turned to Amdocs to help it migrate to the public cloud while retaining some of the familiar aspects of private cloud management. Our team built a scalable, multi-region platform using the Google Cloud VMware Engine (GCVE). The move not only reduced costs, it enhanced security and efficiency for the bank.

Taking the path to modernization at scale
An Amdocs client recently asked for help with surging costs. The company runs tens of thousands of virtual machines and 1,200 over 1,000 applications on VMware. Starting with an AI-driven assessment gave us a clear view of the current state. We then developed a strategy for mass containerization and cloud migration of critical applications and workloads. Some applications – about 20% – offered limited modernization ROI. These moved to the public cloud with a lift-and-shift strategy, which let the team to focus on modernizing higher-ROI applications. When complete, the company will see dramatic cost savings along with the agility that comes with modernization.
